Querroig Castle

Querroig is the first peak in the Pyrenees since they emerged from the sea. At its summit, a castle was built in the 10th century and, four hundred years later, a watchtower.

What eyes can see from there alone explains the purpose.

La Mar d'Amunt

La Mar d'Amunt is a coastal area of Alt Empordà formed by Portbou, Colera, Llançà, La Selva de Mar and Port de la Selva. The excursion traces this beautiful region along the coast.

17.7 km. Round trip, return by bus. Low difficulty. Alt: 225m. Between 5 and 6 hours.


Llançà by the coast road

The coast road from Portbou to Llançà allows to see the sea from a hundred different coastal perspectives. This area is one of the least crowded in Costa Brava and allows to go back in time.

11.5 km. Round trip, return by train. Low difficulty. Alt: 350m. Between 3 and 4 hours.


To Cadaqués by GR-92

Cadaqués is an emblematic place on the Costa Brava and the path that leads there, from Portbou, becomes the first two stages of the GR92. Making a stop in Llançà is a good excursion with a pleasant final reward for the eyes and the senses.

Portbou's reservoir

Due to the isolated situation of Portbou, in 1975 a reservoir was inaugurated to collect the waters of the Portbou stream and guarantee the supply to the town.
The path upstream, from the hostel, is a simple and pleasant walk.

Cap de Creus

Cap de Creus and its natural park, for its beauty, requires time. The excursion from Portbou can last three days, stopping at the Port de la Selva and Cadaqués until you reach Roses or Castelló d'Empúries.

Cervera de la Marenda

In Portbou the county called Empordà ends and, in Cervera de la Marenda, begins the county called Rosselló. There is a path that allows to walk near the sea and return by mountain and get to know all the aspects of this area.

8.9 km. Circular route. Low difficulty. Altitude 188 m. Between 2 and 3 hours.

Walter Benjamin route

By one of the paths by which the Catalan republicans fled the Franco regime a year earlier, in 1940, the german philosopher Walter Benjamin arrived in Portbou escaping from occupied France. This route allows to redo the path of exile from Banyuls de la Marenda.

15.5 km. Return route, going by train. High difficulty. Alt: 671m. Between 4 and 5 hours.



The coastal path to the north takes us to the wonderful village of Cotlliure in two stages. Following the orographic chances of the Red Coast and making a stop and inn in Banyuls, we will reach Cotlliure, where we will have a prize.

Sant Pere de Rodes

Fabulous excursion to this 9th century monastery, from Llançà, hikking by the north and returning through Vall de la Santa Creu and the coast road. The monastery is open to the public and you can eat there. The route is long but much appreciated.
